Our chapter serves colored pencil artists in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. All members of the CPSA national society, 18 years and older, are welcome to join us. We meet four times each year on the 3rd Saturday in January, April, July, and October.

Our goal is to provide informative meetings, exciting workshops and exhibitions for our members. Whether you are an emerging artist new to the medium or a seasoned professional, we invite you to join this forum to network with other colored pencil artists.

Saturday April 27th, Qrtly Meeting

April is the second quarterly meeting but this year the meeting has been moved to the fourth Saturday, due to Easter weekend. The springtime weather usually promises a well-attended meeting, and our special program almost guarantees a full house.

Many members have been looking forward to this meeting since last year when it was announced that Stefan Lohrer from Caran d’Ache would be providing the program and plenty of free samples. In addition to luxury writing instruments, Caran d’Ache carries multiple brands of colored pencil product including Supracolor, Pablo, Museum Aquarelle and of course the famous Luminous 6901.

But wait there’s more… Don’t leave at the conclusion of the program because the excitement has only just begun. Next comes sharing time. Be sure to bring some of your work with you to the meeting.

  • First, an opportunity for constructive advice. This is your opportunity to share a work-in-progress and ask for advice on any areas with which they are having a problem.
  • The next component is Tips, Tools and Techniques, where members share new techniques, new surfaces or pencils they are trying, or new tools they’ve discovered to help them with their art. The ‘Colored Pencil Picker app’ is an example of an item we might discuss.
  • A finally comes the opportunity to share completed works. For this meeting we additionally hope to see some of the artwork that was submitted to the International Exhibition as well as commissions and other finished art work. If the work is not physically available, bring a digital image and we will share on the overhead.

As Members, we expected a couple of things from a chapter meeting; we want to attend a meeting and leave inspired to go home and create art. The other is the social aspect; we like to see their friends at the meeting and be with people with similar interests. Perhaps we all agree with a CPSA member who wrote, “Friendships made and cultivated over the years with artists also working in colored pencil has been very important to the growth of my art form.”
